Privacy Policy

CheckOff ("we," "us," or "our") is a local experience app that helps you discover and check off things to do in your city. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information.

By using the CheckOff app or website, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

1. Information We Collect

Account information. When you create an account, we collect your email address and the display name you choose. If you sign in with Apple, we receive your Apple-provided email address and, if you choose to share it, your name. We do not receive your Apple ID password.

Activity data. We store records of the items you check off, the lists you create or join, dares you send or receive, badges you earn, and your streak history. This data is the core of the CheckOff experience.

Location data. The Nearby feature uses your device's GPS to sort location-specific items by distance. Location is used only in the moment — we do not store your precise GPS coordinates or build a history of your movements. We store only your selected metro area (for example, "Phoenix Metro") as a preference.

Photos. If you use the photo check-in feature, we store the photo you submit in our secure cloud storage (Supabase). Photos are associated with your check-in record and visible to members of the same list.

Device information. We collect your device's push notification token to send you notifications about badges, leaderboard activity, and list updates. You can disable notifications at any time in your device settings.

Usage data. We collect standard app usage data including screen views, errors, and performance metrics to improve the app. This data is not linked to your identity.

2. How We Use Your Information

• To provide the CheckOff service — tracking check-offs, lists, badges, and leaderboards
• To send push notifications about activity relevant to you (badges earned, dare challenges, leaderboard changes)
• To show you location-relevant items on the Nearby screen
• To let list members see each other's activity on shared lists (scores, recent check-offs)
• To improve and debug the app
• To communicate with you about your account when necessary

We do not use your data for advertising targeting. We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not share your email address with partner businesses.

3. Information Visible to Other Users

CheckOff is a social app. The following information is visible to other members of lists you join:

• Your display name
• Items you have checked off on shared lists
• Your score on the leaderboard for each list
• Badges you have earned (on your profile)
• Photos attached to check-ins (if you add a photo)

Your email address is never visible to other users.

4. Partner Businesses

Some items on CheckOff are placed by local business partners who pay to have their business featured. When you check off a partner item, we record that check-off as we do any other — no personal information is shared with the partner business. Partners may see aggregate statistics (total check-ins on their item) but never individual user data.

5. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored using Supabase, a cloud database service with industry-standard security practices including encryption at rest and in transit. Authentication is handled through Supabase Auth with optional Sign in with Apple.

We take reasonable measures to protect your information but cannot guarantee absolute security. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately at the address below.

6. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal information within 30 days, except where retention is required for legal purposes.

Check-in records on shared lists may be retained in anonymized aggregate form (for example, "this item was checked off 47 times") after account deletion.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you
• Correct inaccurate information
• Request deletion of your account and associated data
• Export a copy of your data
• Opt out of push notifications at any time through your device settings

8. Children's Privacy

CheckOff is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

9. Apple Sign In

If you use Sign in with Apple, Apple may provide us with a unique identifier and your email address (which Apple may relay through a private relay address). We use this only to create and manage your CheckOff account. We comply with Apple's guidelines for apps using Sign in with Apple.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the new policy at this URL and, where appropriate, sending a notice through the app. Your continued use of CheckOff after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
